IBM iSeries 400 Model 820From core business to e-business The power to push the limits of business computing New IBM microprocessor technology equips the Model 820 with the strong processing capacity necessary to handle today’s extreme workloads. Depending on your configuration, the Model 820 offers copper interconnect or copper interconnect and Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology— the first servers ever to have SOI. These new processors deliver outstanding performance and can be easily upgraded. Model 820 boasts a relative performance of 370– 3200 processor CPW 1 , depending on configuration. One- to 4-way processors complemented with expandability options of up to 4 TeraBytes (TB) of disk and up to 16 GigaBytes (GB) of memory make this a formidable server for a multitude of workloads. New I/O features boost reliability, availability and connectivity One of the industry’s most highly rated servers for availability just got even better. The Model 820 offers hot- pluggable PCI I/O slots in both the base unit and new I/O expansion towers, allowing you to add new features as well as the ability to easily perform concurrent maintenance without the need to restart the computer. New I/O features include the industry- standard 1 Gbps Ethernet LAN adaptors and 100 Mbps high-speed token ring LAN adaptors. With breakthrough save/restore capability, the Model 820 has the ability to handle the majority of the industry’s fastest high-speed tape drives. The new High Speed Link (HSL) enables The Model 820&; to have almost one TB of data backed up every hour. Flex your application options The Model 820 offers renowned manageability and can support a wide range of application architectures. In its multiprocessor configuration, the Model 820 can be divided into multiple logical partitions (LPARs), allowing you to run applications across several discrete iSeries servers— all within a single footprint. And that's not all. The new 700 MHz Integrated xSeries Server for iSeries lets you put as many as 16 Microsoft Windows 2000 servers right inside your Model 820 and manage them from the same server. The Model 820 includes full support for Domino 5.0.x, delivering groupware and Web services like HTTP and e-mail that can run side-by-side with your existing core applications. Enhanced support for Java and Extensible Markup Language (XML) provide comprehensive support for e-business. IBM Operating System/400® (OS/400®) can be ordered with Portable Application Solutions Environment (PASE ). This integrated runtime provides a subset of the AIX environment for rapid porting of many UNIX applications to iSeries. Extreme Support through Personalization (E.S.P.) The iSeries delivers personalized service and electronic support that is designed to help you keep your business running at peak performance. Through automated support, online tracking of service and proactive maintenance, the iSeries offers support customized to your unique system environment. For example, one product offering is designed to let you know when it’s time to upgrade, and there is a new voice integration feature available that allows for electronically scheduled callbacks. The iSeries also includes an integrated modem to facilitate electronic support.
